This is a wooden puzzle my friend Janet and I created for Art Unleashed. Janet got the idea from some vintage puzzels she saw online.
"Art Unleashed" is a silent and live auction that benefits the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City. This year the auction was held at Hale Arena which is part of the American Royal/Kemper building. The event brought in $86,000 for the Humane Society. Which was about $15,000 more than the year before, this was quite a feat in lo of the present economy.
Janet & I are co-chairs on the Art Committee. With the help of the other committee members, we solicit and collect all the art for the event. This Year the Committee collected over 460 pieces of art from many local artist. This Puzzle was a piece that Janet and I donated. It brought in $200.00 for the Humane Society.
It was challenging to get all the images in just the right spot so they would make since when you turned them to create another animal. there are 4 sides of the puzzle with a different animal on each side. We used 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" wooden squares we found at the hobby store. We ended up having to glue some of the blocks together. we paper pieced the images and adhered them to the wooden blocks. We also found this raw wooden box with a glass window in it, at the hobby store and with a little adjustment we were able to house the puzzle in side it. we painted the box and sanded the box and puzzle pieces edges for an aged effect.
the 4 sides are he Girly Cat, the Wonded Dog, the Magic Rabbit and the Zany Pig.
My favorite is the Pig, probably because that is the one I drew first. Janet's favorite is the cat, Probably because she designed most of it.
Which do you like best?
