Oh my, I am so proud of myself. Today I took this...
and made this...
I am not a sewer. I took sewing lessons in girl scouts, but I haven't sewn in a LONG time.
I received these little Rooster tapestries from one of my best friends after she went to France. She thought I could do something with them. Well that was about 5 years ago (or more). Over a year ago I finally bought the supplies to make these pillows and when I sat down to make them I couldn't fine the power foot petal for the sewing machine. A few months ago I finally ordered a new petal and today I decided I would try to make them.
In the process of gathering up all my sewing stuff, I decided I should try making a smaller pillow for practice. I have saved some of Logan's old t- shirts to do something with, so why not a pillow for his bed. This Gap t-shirt is sooooooooo soft and cute and Army, so I decided this would be my test pillow.
I was so dang proud of what I did. I got the image even, the edges pretty dang straight and the corners pointy. Yippee! I did it. I even took the bottom of the t-shirt and made a flap opening in the back so I didn't have to put a zipper in it.
So onto the Rooster pillows I went. I mitered the corner panels and put a trim on. It is funny, most people use their sewing skills to make paper piecing, but I used my paper crafting skills to figure out how to miter corners for sewing. It was kinda fun. My mom always complains about sewing, so I didn't expect I would enjoy it, but I did. : )
Well on to the Hen pillow. Lets see... can I mustard up enough energy to get started tonight?
I think I can.

I have really been getting into furniture painting and decor blogs lately. Even before I started thinking about getting the booth at Nellie & Nicos. I have been thinking about how to use my skills are a painter and my paper crafting skills together. When I saw this table at the thrift store I thought I would be a great time to incorporate the two.
The table top has a recessed area and a sheet of glass that goes on top of it.
so I decided I wanted to do something there, but i didn't want to get too crazy with it. I actually want this piece to sell, thought I now love it but don't really have any where for it to go.
After I cleaned it up and put a layer of sander deglosser.
I started paining. I picked Behr paint form Home Depot. I actually saw that it got the highest marks in Consumer Update magazine. I went with flat paint and decided I would use Minwax Polyurethane.
So here is what she looks like with her new dress on.

I decoupaged diamonds I cut from different papers on the table top and sat the glass on top so they can't be ruined.
After painting her with Behr's Eucalyptus leaf, I aged her up with a sanding block and some aging glaze and then put the polyurethane on her.
It is hard for me to give this puppy up. For $75.00 she can be yours. She needs a good home. Right now she is here
waiting for you to come get her. ; )

Well it has already been a very busy summer here in the Newsom's house. Logan has had so many baseball games and 3 tournaments already. He went to basketball camp last week and VBS this week. Dan has been busy at work and has a golf tournament today. The Newsom Family will all be gathering here in July for my Mother-in-laws 70th birthday party. We will be going to a Royals baseball game, dinner at Thai Home Place (oh, so good) and getting a family photo taken by my good friend Diana Foster of Studio56.
Along with all this I have just opened a booth at our NEW local antique mall Nellie & Nicos.
These aren't the best photos. I took them with my camera. But this is what I have been working on for the last few weeks. I have two friends who have booths in this mall and after going to see their booths I put my name on the waiting list to get in. At the time they said they were adding 75 new booths, but I was 100th on the list. less then two weeks later they called wanting me to move in right away. Well I had onthing prepared. I had collected a few things, but had not even begun to fix them up. So over Memorial Day weekend Dan and I painted all of this. 4 days of pur sweat and determination. I have never ever been so sweaty and after 4 days of painting and sanding, i could not feel my hands. I think I have arthritus now. Yikes!!!!
This Sideboard and Hutch took 6 coats of paint/etc. I got this peice at a garage sale for $50.00. I thought it would be a great display piece for my Shadowbox art.
I took the back off and covered it with this great home decor fabric I found at Hobby Lobby. I wanted this piece to be REALLY High gloss like Natty by Designs green desk.
I also wanted it to be a real eye catcher. I think I succeeded I this area.
So I have learned a few things, as for High gloss, love the look...hate to paint with it. I (for now) will say Flat is best. You can always come in afterwords with a glossy polyurethane.
I forgot to take "before" pictures until we had taken everything apart and had started painting. Above is what the hutch looked like before. And below is what the sideboad looked like.

We also had to paint the booth walls.
Once I recieved the call I had the booth I had to run out and do some thrift store shopping. I found these great pieces to paint and put a more modern twist to them.
This is an ugly floor. I am going to have to get a rug for the booth.
It has been a very busy summer so far, but really It has been fun. I have sold several pieces already and am still working on more stuff to bring into the booth.

Hi All -
You may have been wondering where I have been. Sorry to leave you hanging. I have been sooooo busy. With the holiday and my sons baseball games (6 this week) and a new venture I started I haven't been able to keep up. I am sooooo sorry!
A New venture you say... oh yes. Some of you know I had put my name in on a waiting list for a booth at the new antique mall (Nellie & Nicos) in Shawnee, KS. Well last week on our way out of town they called and they wanted me to move in immediately. Well had a been garage saling and had found a few things, but NOTHING was ready. I had at least 20 things I needed to paint. YIKES!!!! I should mention that this too was the last week of school and had field day to go to and many other last week events at school + all these Baseball games, the holiday, my nieces graduation, my grandmother moving, and It has been 80 to 90 degrees here, and, and, and. How the H.E. double hockey sticks was I going to get this done.
Well after 4 straight days of painting, priming, sanding, we (me and my two not so happy helpers- hubby and son) completed a sideboard & hutch, end tabe, mirror, jewelry box, 4 shelves, 2 pegboards, 3 wall baskets, 2 sconces, chandelier, 2 display cases, spoon wrack, recipe box, candle sticks, dish, and I am sure I am leaving out something , oh and the booth walls. My hands and arms have never hurt so bad and I have had to loose some weight from all the sweating. (wishful thinking) I think my paint clothes could stand up on their own.
We got moved in on Wednesday. The booth is not full yet. still have more to finish this weekend, but It is looking pretty good. We had lots of comments. Everyone seemed to like the Pink hutch and side board. I wish I had pictures to show you, but I broke my phone while moving in and that is what I took all my before and afters with. Hopefully Dan can get them off the sd card this weekend and I can show you then.
If you are local, you can visit my booth at Nellie & Nicos. I am in the second to last row towards the back if you enter the store from the right and move to the left. There are over 70 new booths now. The mall is slated to be the largest antique mall in the state of Kansas. It is a must see.

STAMPING FOR A CAUSE
Who We Are
Daniel Elston Miller was born to Paul and Dawn Miller August 21, 2002. While appearing to be a healthy and happy baby boy, a few hours into his life would prove something different. From the beginning, Daniel was challenged with liver difficulties and was later diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. Daniel passed away on February 19, 2003.
What We Do
In 2003, Daniel’s family in his honor organized a benefit. Family & Friends raises money by accepting $10.00 donations and in return provides donors with a gift set of 5 handmade cards/envelopes.
Why We Do What We Do
Daniel’s memory remains in the hearts of those he touched in his short life. Daniel’s family wanted to give in return to those who blessed their life in a great time of need. Money raised is provided to the Liver Center and funds annual nursing scholarships.
Dr. James Daniel, Director of the Liver Care Center, was instrumental in the meticulous medical attention and family-centered care that reassured Daniel’s parents.
Nursing scholarships have been established in the names of Gayla Cheadle, Megan Hulett, and Angela Tendick who exhibited exceptional care while providing personal and medical support to the entire family.
How You Make a Difference
In the last 7 years, donations have raised in excess of $40,000. This has provided over 15 scholarships for nursing students who display the qualities of leadership, service, and compassion. Additionally, 2007 marked the first Daniel E. Miller Lecture Series promoting knowledge and education in the area of liver care.
